Rob penny was an innovator and collaborator, he along with August Wilson, Curtis Porter, Tony Fountain, and E. Philip McKain founded the Black Horizons Theatre in 1968 which illustrated Black nationalist activism. After becoming one of the founders of Pitt's Africana Studies department, Penny's goal of Black activism continued through the Kuntu Repertory Theatre.
