Dorsett made history as the only Pitt football player to win the Heisman Trophy, which he received in 1976, his senior year. He also earned other prestigious awards like the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award that same year. Throughout his four seasons in college, from 1973 to 1976, he consistently earned All-America honors. Dorsett set several rushing records during his college career, including being the first player to surpass 6,000 career rushing yards and achieving over 100 rushing yards in 36 games, including 20 consecutive games. He led Pitt to an undefeated season and the national championship in 1976. In the NFL, Dorsett was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1977 and had a highly successful career, rushing for over 1,000 yards in eight out of nine seasons. He played in two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XII with the Cowboys, and was selected to four Pro Bowls, retiring in 1988 after 12 seasons. Dorsett was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994. He was inducted into the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. His No.33 Pitt Jersey is retired.
