Title

Larry Harris

Description

Harris was a standout player for the Pitt basketball team from 1974 to 1978, known for his scoring and style of play. He served as a starting forward for his final three seasons and consistently led the team in scoring. Harris stands out as one of only three Pitt players, alongside Don Hennon and Billy Knight, to average 20 points per game in three different seasons. By the time he finished his college career, Harris had amassed 1,914 points, making him Pitt's all-time leading scorer at the time. Despite the absence of the 3-point line during his playing days, he recorded impressive scoring performances, tallying 30 or more points on 14 occasions, including a career-high 39 against Maryland and Syracuse. Harris earned recognition as a two-time All-Eastern 8 selection, particularly excelling in the 1977 season when he topped the league in scoring with an average of 22.9 points per game. Following his collegiate career, Harris was drafted by the Buffalo Braves in the fourth round of the NBA draft in 1978. He later transitioned to a successful coaching career, spanning nearly three decades at the college level. Harris was inducted into the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
