Hugh Green is widely considered one of the most impressive defensive college football players ever. From 1977-80, he made a Pitt record 49 sacks, which still stands today. He also was a three-time first-team All-American. Green has received many awards and accolades, such as the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Maxwell Award, and the Walter Camp Award. He also finished second in the 1980 prestigious Heisman Trophy balloting. Green helped lead the Panthers to a four-year record of 39-8-1 and three Top 10 finishes during his career. After his time at Pitt, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1981. He played for 11 professional seasons and was selected for the Pro Bowl twice. Hugh Green's No. 99 jersey is retired at Pitt. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
