Charles Smith is regarded as one of the most gifted and prolific athletes in Pitt basketball history. He played at Pitt from 1984-88 and scored 2,045 points and remains the Panthers' all-time leading scorer. He received awards and honors such as the Big East Rookie of the Year, Big East Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American. After his career at Pitt, he became a member of the 1988 Olympic basketball team that received a bronze medal in Seoul. In 1988, Smith was drafted into the NBA and played for 10 seasons. Smith's No. 32 was retired by Pitt men's basketball, and he was inducted into the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
